The battle for control of the economic heartland of South Africa remains too close to call in the local government elections with the DA and ANC running neck and neck in Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg.
With 46% of votes declared in Johannesburg, both the DA and ANC have slightly above 42% of the vote.
In Tshwane, the two parties are in a dead heat at just below 43% each with over half the votes declared.
And in Ekhurhuleni, the ANC have 45% to the DA’s 40% with close to 60% of the votes in.
The EFF may hold the key to a coalition administration in all three economically powerful metros.
Political analyst Somadoda Fikeni, says, “My prediction is the major parties, ANC and the DA will not make it to the 50 plus 1%. They may stand neck and neck around 40’s and therefore, the issue of going out on courtship to get another partner to coalition governments begins.”
