Two people due in court for breaching election laws

Two people arrested for the alleged contravention of the Electoral Act and attempted theft of a police officer’s service pistol will make their first appearance in the Malamulele magistrate’s court in Limpopo on Friday.

One of the suspects allegedly fought with Independent Electoral Commission personnel and police, when he was prevented from taking a picture in a voting booth at Shigalo village outside Malamulele.

His co-accused allegedly grabbed the officer’s fire-arm which was later recovered.

The fracas delayed voting on Wednesday by several hours.

A police van chasing the suspect who had fled with a police pistol hit and injured a woman who was watching the scene from her yard.

She has been treated and discharged from a local hospital.
