DA pushes ahead in Johannesburg

With 95% of the votes counted in Gauteng, the Democratic Alliance (DA) leads the ANC in Johannesburg with the support of 41.8%.

The African National Congress (ANC) is trailing behind marginally with 41.68%. In Tshwane, the DA leads the ANC by 2.6%, gaining the majority vote thus far of 43.55%.

Ninety nine percent of votes have been declared nationally.

Final election results are expected to be announced at 6 pm Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, the ANC has managed to retain all local municipalities in Gauteng except for the DA-run Midvaal south of Johannesburg.

However, the focus remains on the fiercely contested Tshwane and Johannesburg metro municipalities where the ANC and the DA are still neck and neck.

This is with just 95% of the votes declared in Gauteng.

The ANC has managed to retain Emfuleni in the Vaal, Randfontein/Westonaria, Mogale City in Krugersdorp, Lesedi in Heidelburg and Merafong in Carltonville albeit with a reduced majority.
