The CSIR is reporting that the race for votes in the Tshwane Metropolitan will be a close one.
The organisation predicts that the African National Congress (ANC) will win 44% of the vote.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is predicted to win 42% of the vote and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) EFF 10%. This means that, according to the prediction, the ANC will lose control of the metro.
In Johannesburg, the prediction is that the ANC will win 46% of the vote, the DA 39% and the EFF is predicted to win more than 10% of the vote.
A coalition between the DA and the EFF could there take control of the metropolitan area.
Currently, in Johannesburg, the numbers that have been sent to the IEC has the DA at 60% and the ANC has slightly less than 30% of the vote.
The discrepancy with the predicted outcome, says the CSIR, is due to areas like Soweto, which is still outstanding.
This is taken into consideration in the CSIR prediction model.
Meanwhile the CSIR predicts that the DA will improve to 65% of the vote in Cape Town. The ANC, it says, will drop to around 25% of the vote.
