IEC happy with elections

Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) vice-chairperson Terry Tselane says despite all the challenges they’ve encountered, they are happy that they ran a very successful elections.

Speaking on Morning Live, Tselane says challenges include acts of violence in some areas.

Previously, protesting communities disrupted registrations on two voter registration weekends, making it difficult for IEC staff to work in the area.

On Saturday, IEC Chairperson Glen Mashinini declared the 2016 Local Government Elections as free and fair.

This was announced as the final results were announced at IEC’s Results Operation Centre (ROC) Centre in Pretoria on Sat.

Leaders of the protesting communities in Vuwani vowed not to vote and said the IEC was not welcome to set up voting stations in the area.
