Coalition talks set to kick off in Rustenburg

Coalition talks are set to commence in Rustenburg – the heart of the North West’s economically important platinum belt.

More than 20 municipalities remain hung, including several metros, following the local government elections.

The Independent Forum 4 Service Delivery, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and other opposition parties have pledged their support for a coalition to unseat the African National Congress (ANC) in Rustenburg.

However, ANC Provincial Secretary in North West, Dakota Legoete, says once the Proportional Representation Councillors (PRC) are allocated, the party will have an outright majority on the Rustenburg council.

Legoete says, “We must say that Rustenburg, we have retained it. Out of almost 45 wards, we are comfortable with 34 wards. We are going to emerge as the majority party in Rustenburg. So, the issue of a coalition will not be a  threat.”
