ANC must blame itself for Tshwane Metro loss

Political analyst from the Wits University School of Governance, Professor Susan Booysen, says the ANC must blame itself for the loss of the Tshwane Metro.

The reaction comes after the DA won the most votes in the Pretoria-based Metro in the recent local government elections.

“The ANC in Tshwane went wrong on multiple fronts. They didn’t take the threat that happened in the Gauteng 2014 election seriously. They take the voters for granted.”

The ANC says despite having lost the administration of the Tshwane Metro, there’s still a consolation to lean on.

The DA won the most votes in the Pretoria-based Metro and secured 93 seats – 15 short of a majority on the 214-seat council.

The ANC obtained 89 seats while the EFF came third with 25 seats.

The ANC’s election team member, Nomvula Mokonyane, justifies their loss of the country’s capital metro.

“We’ve won a number of seats and we now have to go and study the results and make our own comments thereafter,I think it’s too much for us to comment now. We went to these elections knowing that they’re very tough. We can do better but I think the best that we can be able to do is to keep in touch with the voter. We will never go to battle to loose and we are quite hopeful that we can change the situation.”
