The African National Congress (ANC) Women’s League President Bathabile Dlamini has strongly condemned the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) for the way it handled the protest by female Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members while President Jacob Zuma was speaking on Saturday night.
The women stood in silence in front of the stage, holding placards referring to President Zuma’s rape accuser known as Khwezi.
This was during the live broadcast of the IEC election results.
The women were later forcibly removed by Zuma’s bodyguards when he left the podium.
Dlamini says the IEC failed to act during the protest because it does not care about the President.
“No head of state should be treated like this, we can never allow this. The IEC must come clean on it, it was clearly choreographed. And the way they handled the whole thing was not professional. They were supposed to ask president to sit down, deal with the issue and apologised and asked him to continue,” says Dlamini.
