DA’s Msimanga elected unopposed Tshwane Mayor

DA’s Tshwane mayoral candidate Solly Msimanga has been elected Mayor of the country’s capital. The DA entered into a coalition with a range of smaller parties and was expected to have Msimanga elected as mayor.

The ANC disrupted proceedings when Msimanga was elected, but Msimanga was quick to fire shots.

“I’d love to ask the members of the ANC never be bad losers. It doesn’t flare very well. I think you can learn a thing or two about humility. Be humble! This is why you came No. 2.”

Msimanga has promised to rid the City of nepotism, corruption, cronyism, among other issues.

“They (the people of Tshwane) are tired of EPWP jobs that are only given to certain members of certain families and their friends. The people are saying that they are tired of billions that have disappeared time and time again.”

The EFF has not joined the coalition, but says it will vote with the DA.

Earlier, ANC members asked the presiding officer, Jason Ngobeni, to take notice of the two councillors whose nominations were
snubbed by ANC leadership just before the municipal elections. One of the councillors, Lucas Ngobeni, from Soshanguve had interdicted the ANC from ignoring their nominations.

The DA’s Katlego Mathebe was earlier elected Speaker of the City of Tshwane Metro council.
