Voter turnout is at an estimated 59%

With a quarter of the voting districts having declared their votes, voter turnout is at almost 59%.

Turnout is measured by the percentage of registered voters that cast their ballots in the election.

More than 6 000 of the 22 000 voting districts in the 2016 local government elections have finished counting their votes.

Nationwide, the African National Congress (ANC) has won slightly more than 50% of the votes, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA)  at 32% and the EFF, who has 6% of the vote.

Eight local councils have their final results. The ANC controls six and the DA is in control of two.
