Coalitions don’t always sit well with voters: Analyst

Political analyst, Sanusha Naidu says coalitions do not always sit well with the electorate.

Analysts expect to see coalitions following this year’s Local Government Elections.

In 2011, the National Freedom Party (NFP) and the Minority Front (MF) went into coalitions with the African National Congress (ANC) in hung municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Speaking on AM Live, Naidu says, “Coalitions can be stable and unstable, they can go either way. They can get the ruling party to become responsive, so it could have a positive impact or on the other hand, you can end up having coalitions that can break down.”
