IEC sees rise in Musina eligible voters due to municipal demarcation

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says the number of eligible voters under the Musina local municipality in Limpopo has more than doubled from about 20 000 to over 43 000.

The local IEC says the reason for the sharp increase is that some parts of the disestablished Mutale local municipality have been integrated into Musina under new municipal demarcations, which saw six more wards and over fifty villages have been added into Musina.

IEC officer in Musina Kenny Ravhuanzo also says three more political parties are also going to contest the August 3 municipal elections.

Ravhuanzo says, “We have 43 282 eligible voters of which part of them is the portion of Mutale that has been integrated into the Musina municipality, and we expect people to come out in numbers mostly the youth.”

“The new political parties on the voters’ roll are South African United Party (SAUP), we also have the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the LF, we do not have independent candidates in our municipality.”
