ANC to deal with party’s candidates’ list after elections

African National Congress (ANC) deputy secretary, Jessie Duarte says they will only deal with unhappiness over the party’s candidates’s list after August 3 municipal elections.

Duarte said this while on the campaign trail in Gugulethu and Heideveld on the Cape Flats. She says the ANC is now only focussing on winning the elections.

“We have examined the list issues. It is on the PR side of the list where there have been problems. We can’t change lists now and we must not lie to people and give them false hope. Lists will be corrected after the elections even if we had to have by-elections that will happen. But right now we have to win these elections first – that is our major task,” she explains.

Meanwhile, the party’s secretary general Gwede Mantashe also embarked on a campaign trail in Maokeng, Kroonstad in the Free State.  The area has been plagued by drought and poor infrastructure.

Mantashe is also giving out the party’s t-shirts to community members and encouraging them to vote for the party. Some community members have told him that they want jobs.

Mantashe is accompanied by ANC ward candidate Mpho Chakane and Free State secretary William Bulwane.
