First voting district results in: DA wins by 45.45%

The results for the first voting district in the 2016 local government elections have been released. Results have been declared for the voting district Mistly Farm at Komga in the Great Kei municipality Three candidates are contesting the ward and they belong to the following parties:

ANC: 31.82%
DA: 45.45%
Independent: 22%

Remember that the other voting district results are still outstanding and it must be released before a ward candidated can be determined.

The municipality is situated in the former industrial towns of Butterworth, King Williams Town, and East London.

The main spoken language in Great Kei is Isikhosa – and it is estimated there are just over 10 000 households with a capital expenditure of just over 33 million rands. In 2014/15 the municipality received a disclaimer audit from the auditor general – this ranks extremely low – and the municipality has routinely failed to submit key documentation to treasury.

In the 2011 municipal elections, the ANC won the ward in which this voting district is locate.
