Al-Jama throws NFP a lifeline

The National Freedom Party or NFP at Umtshezi in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands – which covers the Estcourt area – says it has reached an agreement with Islamic party Al Jama to contest Wednesday’s municipal election.

Al-Jama is contesting the elections at Umtshezi, Stanger, Umdoni and Pietermaritzburg. NFP regional co-ordinator Sizwe Mchunu says this is a lifeline agreement, and both parties will remain independent. Al-Jama Party President, Ganief Hendricks says according to the agreement, NFP members will vote for Al-Jama – and if Al-Jama wins 14 out of the 23 seats it will give 12 of those seats to the NFP.
