‘Vote IFP’, Buthelezi tells NFP supporters

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi urged National Freedom Party (NFP) supporters to vote for his party.

He was speaking at his party’s final rally at Ulundi in northern KwaZulu-Natal, before Wednesday’s local polls.

“We understand that they must now choose between forfeiting their vote and lending their support in this elections to the party best equipped to express their vote. I believe that, that party is the IFP, because we can deliver what the NFP promised to its own supporters.”

In his speech, the IFP leader also accused the African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA) of playing political games with people’s lives.

“In the Western Cape there are grandmothers who have been on the housing waiting list for some 18 years, they gave their vote to the DA, but still they live in shacks in dire poverty. There are communities with no electricity and no running water. Just because you don’t want to vote for the ANC doesn’t mean you’ll find a home in the DA.”
