Two more Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors have defected to the African National Congress (ANC) in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
A number of DA councillors have left the party in the in the past few months to join the ruling party.
Kenneth Koll and Nomakasi Cobo say they are leaving because of alleged racism.
Cobo says she could not stay in a party that embraces what she claims to be racist cadre deployment and does not take her views into consideration.
“Our voices were not heard. They are talking about cadre deployment that the ANC is doing but they are doing the same thing also. Because you will find, you will see someone inside but you do not understand how because the position was not advertised but you just see someone there and most of the time. They employ white people. What about black people? Because there are black people who are also educated but they are not recognised in this party.”
The DA Mayoral candidate in Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip has wished the former councillors well.
He says, “The ANC have now paraded two more DA councillors, both of whom were not successful at getting into re-electable positions. My comment on that is good luck to them.”
Meanwhile the DA continues with its SMS campaign that Madiba dedicated his life for people’s right to vote.
The message urges voters to use that right on Wednesday by voting for change that stops corruption and creates jobs.
