Upcoming local government elections ‘already rigged’ – Buthelezi

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi claims the upcoming local government elections have already been rigged.
He was reacting to reports of stolen ballot boxes in Soweto. Buthelezi called on his supporters to be vigilant and report any electoral fraud. He was addressing dozens of IFP followers in Nkandla in northern KwaZulu-Natal.
The IFP took its campaign right to President Jacob Zuma’s doorstep. Even the cold weather couldn’t deter young and old from attending the rally.
Adamant to retain the municipality, their leader did not disappoint them. He urged them to go and vote in numbers and claimed the election has already been defrauded.
Buthelezi reminded voters that it was here at Nkandla where taxpayers money was spent on the President’s home.
Nkandla is one of the hotly-contested municipal areas in the province.
After the 2011 local government elections it was governed by an African National Congress (ANC) and National Freedom Party (NFP) coalition. A year later the IFP took control after a by-election, and will be keen to retain it.
The ANC would want to win it as it’s the home of President Zuma.
