African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Gwede Mantashe is expected to embark on the party’s final campaign trail in the Tlokwe Municipality in Potchefstroom in the North West on Saturday.
His visit to the embattled municipality comes just few days before the 2016 municipal polls.
Tlokwe has been in the news since 2013 when independent candidates challenged the by-elections in the area and took the IEC to both the Electoral Court and Constitutional Court.
The independent candidates are now challenging the absence of addresses on the voters roll.
Since 2013 Tlokwe municipality has been a political battle for the ANC, DA and Independent Candidates.
All these parties have been striving by all means to take control of the municipality which is rated the best performing in the North West.
Parties are expected to contest in all the 34 wards that include Ventersdorp and Potchefstroom.
Mantashe will be in Ikageng Township where he will be conducting door-to-door visits and address community meetings.
This is to ensure that his party’s support is guaranteed for Wednesday municipal elections.
