An African National Congress (ANC) candidate councillor for Ward four in the Walmer Township, Port Elizabeth, has been gunned down on Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson, Mncedi Mbombo says Nceba Dywili died in a hail of bullets.
“A 40-year-old ward councillor was shot and killed last night at 9pm. It is alleged that he was shot in Zwide by two unknown men while he was dropping a lady at her house.”
Mbombo adds, “His body was found by police with several bullet wounds and the lady that was driving with him also suffered some shots and is in a stable condition in hospital.”
A member of the ANC provincial executive, Andile Lungisa, says Dywili’s death is a great loss to the party.
“He has been working very hard in his ward for the ANC for the movement to win that ward. He was a popular candidate and supported by all people, especially in ward four. There was no dispute on the name of Nceba. He was a popular candidate.”
The motive for his killing has not yet been established.
