In Limpopo the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it wants to win the Polokwane Municipality.
The party made in-roads during the national elections in 2014 and is currently the official opposition in the Limpopo Legislature.
Limpopo is EFF leader Julius Malema home province.
On Sunday, the African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma raised concerns about Malema’s popularity in this part of the country.
The EFF has chosen Polokwane as the venue for the final rally. The party is pulling out all the stops to ensure it gets support.
EFF secretary-general Godrich Gardee says, “A total takeover of Polokwane municipality, we have made the necessary calculations, we have spoken to our people [and] we will continue speaking to the people. Definitely there will be a new mayor and a new council in the municipality.”
“As a matter of fact, not everybody who comes to the rally is of a voting age but most of the people who come to our rallies as you can see the old people here, they are of a voting age and as we go to their houses [doing] door to door [campaigns] we are caring a voters roll and we tick them and we have ticked quite a number of them,” explains Gardee.
The party says it hopes to win some of the small municipalities and has ruled out coalitions but rather the partnerships with parties that will agreed to implement its manifesto.
