Fransman saga mirrors ANC’s divisions

Political analyst, Professor Fanie Cloete, says the uncertainty around the future of the Western Cape African National Congress (ANC) Chairperson is an indication of deep divisions in the party.

Marius Fransman was asked to step aside earlier this year following allegations of sexual harassment against him.

He has approached the Western Cape High Court to compel the ANC’s Integrity Committee to give him the results of its findings.
The party says Fransman’s fate lies with its disciplinary committee.

Cloete says delays in resolving the Fransman matter could hurt the ANC in the upcoming local government elections.

“Now that Luthuli House in the form of Gwede Mantashe  has denied that Mr Fransman is to be reinstated, it clearly indicate the divisions are not only as bad as before but even worse because he now taking his own party to court,  this will give a very negative impact on the ANC elections in the Western Cape.”
