Top UDM leader joins ANC

Top United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader in KwaZulu-Natal, Nonhlanhla Nkabinde, has joined the African National Congress (ANC).

She is the widow of former UDM strongman Sifiso Nkabinde who was murdered in 1999.  Sifiso Nkabinde was instrumental in the introduction of the UDM in the province.

Nonhlanhla Nkabinde says her husband would be proud of her today as she and 14 other family members have left the UDM for the ANC. She says her husband had wished to join the ANC before he died.

She says she hopes her decision will contribute to bringing about peace in the once volatile area of Richmond.

The UDM has wished Nkabinde well in her new party.
