ANC won’t be discouraged by killings in KZN: Sihle Zikalala

KwaZulu-Natal African National Congress (ANC) chairperson Sihle Zikalala says the ANC is undeterred by the recent killings of six Councillor Candidates in the province.

He was speaking at the funeral of Khanyile Ngobese- Sibisi.

Six ANC Councillor Candidates were gunned down in the province recently.

With just less than 11 days left before the elections, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal will be going into the Local Government Elections with six of its Councillor Candidates standing posthumously.

Should any of the six ANC gunned down members be voted for, a by-election will be held.

During a funeral for one of the killed candidates – provincial party leaders say they are shocked but are undeterred.

Zikalala has blamed the killings on elements who wanted to destabilise the ANC, saying his party has launched its own investigation.

Hundreds of party faithful gathered to bid farewell to Ngobese-Sibisi. She was shot eight times whilst attending a Nelson Mandela Day event on Monday.

Her family described her as a fearless revolutionary. Ngobese- Sibisi is survived by her five children and one brother.

Police are still investigating the motive behind her killing.

No arrests have been made so far.
