The African National Congress (ANC) says it is expecting close on 40 000 people to attend the party’s final regional rally at Zwide in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
President Jacob Zuma is expected to address the Siyanqoba Rally at the Dan Qeqe stadium as the ANC tries to retain control of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the August local elections.
This comes after leading what he described as a humbling campaign in East London.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says 500 busses have been booked to transport supporters.
Kodwa says they have worked hard to resolve outstanding issues.
“We have had to resolve some of the issues arising from the list process. If you saw the response of the people from ward 33,36, 22, we even went back to ward 22 yesterday (Friday). I think having resolved the political issues people are now focusing more on winning the metro for the ANC.”
For two days, President Zuma is in the Eastern Cape to garner votes for next month’s local elections and for now he is happy at the response.
This is the president’s 7th visit to the province in the past six months.
