ACDP to lodge complaint against DA with IEC

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) in the Western Cape says it will lodge a complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) against the Democratic Alliance (DA) for alleged breach of the electoral code of conduct.

The DA has sent SMSes to voters claiming that a vote for smaller parties was a wasted vote.

The ACDP’s complaint follows a similar one by the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus). ACDP’s provincial leader Ferlon Christians says the SMSes are misleading.

“The reason is we believe it is a breach of the code of conduct and we will lodge a complaint because it is not true. We know every vote in a PR system counts. We have done it before in the previous elections and the IEC did not do their job. So today we will again go to the IEC to lodge the formal complaint because we want the IEC to do their job because it is in breach of the electoral code.”

Meanwhile, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Gauteng is to lay a complaint with the IEC after itselection posters were defaced in Tembisa on the East Rand.

The party says it’s in possession of photos showing African National Congress (ANC) volunteers defacing posters.

“We received a report from our volunteers in Tembisa that they caught ANC volunteers right handed defacing out posters with ANC posters and when they were approached they intimidated our volunteers.  As the IFP, we want to commend our volunteers for remaining calm and peaceful during that provocation by ANC volunteers. We are busy preparing a report to the IEC,” says IFP Gauteng caucus leader Bonginkosi Dlamini.
