The African National Congress (ANC) has strongly warned its candidates that they will be removed from being party councillors if they relocate from their wards after being elected.
This weekend the ANC deployed its heavy weights including the Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to KwaZulu-Natal to garner support ahead of the August the third municipal elections.
Speaking to thousands of party supporters in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC provincial chairperson Sihle Zikalala said party councillors who were considering relocating from areas where they were elected should think twice.
“The ANC will ensure that all councillors of the ANC are accountable to the people.” He says, “We will ensure that they will stay within their wards. Once someone vacate his area, he will be removed from being a councillor.”
“But ANC councillors will be compulsory for them to have a report back meetings at least once every three months.”
