DA to lay criminal charges against Ekurhuleni mayor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) will lay criminal charges against Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele and city manager Khaya Ngema for the alleged irregular awarding of 285 tenders worth over R7 billion.

Some of the tenders include a new Information and Communications Technology (ICT) system and the procurement of water meters.

The DA has also accused the Gauteng government of failing to remove Ngema as city manager after a ruling by the high court in Johannesburg that his continued employment was unlawful.

DA mayoral candidate for the Ekurhuleni Metro, Ghaleb Cachalia says, “The DA is seeking to give voice to the people of Ekurhuleni to ensure there is transparency and openness about huge amounts of fruitless, wasteful expenditure, gross mismanagement, criminal acts of corruption which have gone unchallenged and are not taken to their proper conclusion.”
