Didiza’s Ekangala campaigning gets mixed reactions

African National Congress (ANC) Tshwane mayoral candidate, Thoko Didiza, and her group have received mixed reactions during their door-to-door campaign in Ekangala near Bronkhorstspruit in Pretoria.

When handing out ANC t-shirts, some residents refused to accept a t-shirt with President Jacob Zuma’s face on it, and demanded one with former President Nelson Mandela’s face.

Many people complained about empty political promises, job reservation for ANC members and their families and poor service delivery.

“Obviously, when it is this time of the year and everyone needs votes, they come and campaign and they do not follow up. They are not going to fix it. When they campaign they promise and after they campaign they do not come back,” says one resident.

However, some residents were positive about the visit.

One person says, “This was very helpful because I just spoke to them about my debt and they are going to help me apply for NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) and they also promised us houses.”
