Political parties disrupt Ligwalagwala FM broadcast

A current affairs outside broadcast programme by the SABC’s Ligwalagwala FM radio station had to be cut short after it was disrupted by participating political parties.

The programme was broadcasting from the Mapulaneng Hall in Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.

A member of the Bushbuckridge Residents Association (BRA) alleges that his vehicle was also tampered with.

BRA is the strongest contender in the Bushbuckridge Municipality in the upcoming local government elections.

It currently has seven seats.

BRA Secretary General, Cleopas Mahunye, says he suspects that the incident is politically motivated.

“He saw some leaks under the car then when he put the engine on motion, the car reported that there was a brake fuel leak. And when he went under the car, he found that someone had tampered with the brake fluid cable. I think it is political intolerance because we were inside the hall debating and whoever tampered with the car knows that its owner is a ward candidate in ward 17.”

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters has promised Bushbuckridge Municipality residents improved service delivery in the area.

EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu was on a campaign trail in the area on Friday.

Shivambu’s campaign coincided with an announcement that EFF and the Bushbuckridge Residents’ Association will work together in the area.
