Buthelezi pleads with NFP to give “real” reasons behind failure to pay IEC deposit

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has called on National Freedom Party (NFP) leaders to reveal the real reasons behind their failure to pay their election deposit on time.
NFP leaders have accused the IFP of orchestrating their demise after the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) disqualified the NFP from participating in the 3 August municipal elections.
Buthelezi addressed the media in Durban after violent protests, allegedly by NFP members, in Ulundi, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
“I am deeply disturbed by these developments and I remember how the political violence of the eighties and early nineties started. It began with tit for tat actions, irresponsible actions and propaganda, no matter how much I sought to restrain our members. I therefore call on the NFP members to speak to their members and honest about the late payment to the IEC. This is an internal matter the NFP needs to deal with maturity and circumspection.”
