ANC supports NFP’s decision to appeal its exclusion

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal says it supports the National Freedom Party’s (NFP’s) decision to exhaust all legal processes to contest in the August 3 local government elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) disqualified the NFP after it failed to deposit the registration fee on time.

Addressing the media in Durban, the ANC provincial secretary Super Zuma, says although the ANC was prepared to win all municipalities in the province, it would not take advantage of the situation.

However, Zuma says the ANC is currently engaging with the party.

“If NFP member decided to vote ANC or IFP members or DA members we will welcome that. But we can’t have a programme to say now that there is a problem with the NFP; we are saying it to be done. Let the NFP be given to a chance to exhaust all legal processes, and then we will engage with them. We are having a continuous engagement as we are in coalition to deal with the issue,” explains Zuma.
