The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) says it is ready to govern the beleaguered Tlokwe Local Municipality in Potchefstroom.
EFF leader Julius Malema is on a three day election campaign trail in the North West Province.
Malema says his party is willing to work with the Tlokwe Independent candidates and all the other parties in Tlokwe, except the African National Congress (ANC), if the ruling party gets less than 50% of the votes.
The EFF’s first stop was extension 7 in the Tlokwe Local municipality.
The party says it believes Tlokwe is within its grasp in the coming municipal elections.
Malema urged residents to vote for his party to ensure real development.
“We think that we have heard the call from our people that the EFF must come and take over the municipality of Tlokwe and I am just here to consolidate the hard work that our fighters have put on the ground.”
EFF supporters who came to listen to Malema are optimistic.
One supporter says, “I want to see my life change, I don’t want to live that live like my parents lived before.”
“We believe in the EFF because of its fight against corruption,” says another supporter.
Another supporter adds, “I came here to support Julius Malema because we saw the manifesto will take us forward.”
Tlokwe has been in the news after independent candidates took the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to court forcing them to provide addresses for all voters on the voters’ roll.
Malema thanked the Tlokwe Independent candidates and said the EFF is ready to work with them.
The EFF will also take its election campaign to Mahikeng and Rustenburg.
