ANCWL, ANCYL under fire for announcing preference for party president

The Young Communist League (YCL) has lashed out at the African National Congress Women and Youth League for openly expressing their preferred choice for the ruling party’s next president.

The two leagues have thrown their weight behind outgoing chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to succeed President Jacob Zuma at the party’s national elective conference at the end of next year.

YCL chairperson Mluleki Dlelanga has called on the ANC’s leadership to discipline the Women and Youth League for ignoring a directive not to engage in discussion about the ruling party’s succession debate.

“The level of ill-discipline we see when the comrades having rallies, they pronounce their preferred candidates.  As the YCL we never said we want a woman.  ANC must discipline the Women and Youth League for pronouncing on their preferred candidate.”
