EFF calls for NFP’s inclusion in LGE 2016

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called on the Electoral Court and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to be lenient to the National Freedom Party (NFP) and allow them to contest the August municipal elections.

The IEC disqualified the NFP because it had failed to pay the R400 thousand deposit required by the second of June.

EFF National spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has criticised the IEC for the criteria it uses to ask for a deposit from parties who want to contest the elections.

“We are calling on them to register the NFP to participate in the elections. Denying them that opportunity will not be punishing their leadership but it is punishing the voters their right to choose whatever party they want,” adds Ndlozi.

The EFF’s national spokesperson further says: “The NFP is a serious political party, it is in Parliament, and it has proven itself over and over again in the elections that it has a voter base.”

Ndlozi insist that the failure to register the NFP will leave the voters to be commercialised and to the device of the highest bidder.

The Electoral Court is set to hear the NFP’s application on Friday.
