N2 protest action resumes

Police have been deployed to the N2 near the Cape Town International Airport where protest action has resumed.

The incoming lanes are closed due to protesters throwing stones and burning tyres. It is not clear who is behind the latest protest.

On Wednesday evening, African National Congress members (ANC) aggrieved over candidate lists, burnt rubble on the road and set two buses alight.

Western Cape Acting Traffic Chief, Jacques Mosterdt says, “The N2 near Borchards Quarry, direction Cape Town is closed due to protest action. The protestors are burning tyres and throwing stones. We ask motorists to please make use of alternative routes. All emergency services are on the scene to monitor the situation.”

Meanwhile, disciplinary action has been instituted against an ANC member believed to be the instigator of Wednesday night’s violent protest on the N2.

Two Golden Arrow buses were torched near the Cape Town International Airport.
