NFP pushes to sort out IEC payment ‘mess’

The National Freedom Party (NFP) has taken responsibility for the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) decision to disqualify the party from contesting the August Municipal Elections.

The NFP has approached the Electoral Court in an attempt to reverse the decision.

The party has been disqualified from contesting the polls after it failed to pay the deposit fee by June 2.

Speaking on AM Live, NFP National Secretary, Nhlanhla Khubisa says they are still consulting with their lawyers to try and resolve the matter with the IEC.

“Our treasurer-general confused the date for the payment to that of the compilation and certification of candidates.”

Khubisa adds, “We are not blaming the IEC, we are admitting that the omission and the fault was an administrative error on our behalf.”
