DA calls on political leaders to work towards peaceful elections

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has called on all political party leaders to work towards peaceful local government elections on August 3.

Maimane was speaking at the party’s Tshwane manifesto launch in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. He called for tolerance and calm in the Metro and criticized last week’s protests that saw five people lose their lives.

“Let us condemn all acts of violence, lets us desist all political violence and make it quite clear none of our members will participate in any violent acts.”

“I call upon all leaders to intervene on this matter. All efforts must be made by political parties to make sure we have a peaceful election.”

The party maintains that it will win Tshwane despite the African National Congress (ANC) nominating a strong candidate in Thoko Didiza.

“They can bring anybody else, they tried it in Nelson Mandela Bay with Danny Jordaan to the same effect because corruption is cancerous, and it has affected the whole organization.”

The party has promised to better manage municipal finances and improve service delivery if it wins Tshwane.
