Campaign trails heating up as elections near

With 38 days to the August 3rd elections, the campaign trails are heating up and it was no different for the African National Congress’s (ANC) top six.

Kliptown is where the Freedom Charter was adopted in 1961 and 61 years later a site of festivities.

ANC Treasurer General Zweli Mkhize says, “All the candidates who have been sent out to be counselors in the next elections – their task is simple, go and implement the Freedom Charter. All the programmes that our government is pursuing are all programmes of implementing the Freedom Charter.”

It is a sentiment shared by Baleka Mbete who met the Progressive Business Forum and Young Professionals in Mthatha.

She says young people should grab opportunities which come their way.

“Our black business people belong to mainly to the sector of business that may be referred to poorer or small business. So I think
what is needed for us, is to strengthen the mechanism of interacting that are like in this area of OR Tambo region, and I think that
O. R. Tambo region is beginning to change – and it is not enough. It is just very slow.”

The Forum made call that the Eastern Cape government must do more business with black entrepreneurs.
