Members of the African National Congress (ANC) leadership on Sunday attended a Church service in Gugulethu to introduce and pray for three ward candidates.
The service at the JL Zwane church was attended by Parliamentary Chief Whip, Jackson Mthembu and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Bheki Cele.
The candidates are Mimi Manata in Ward 41, Sonwabo Ngxumza in Ward 42 and Bongani Ngcombolo from Ward 40.
Mthembu says, “We introduced our candidates for ward 41 and ward 40 and all our candidates were well accepted by the community, by the church. They are also well known to the congregation, so it was a plus for the African National Congress.”
Meanwhile, Cele has sympathised with the family of Limpopo MEC for Agriculture and provincial ANC Women’s League chairperson, Joy Matshoge.
She died in a car crash on the N1 South outside Mokopane in Limpopo on Saturday night.
“It is such a loss what has happened, I have been working very closely with her especially with the drought issues, and as you know that with Limpopo is a basket of food at the moment here in South Africa. She has been having a lot of programmes.”
