ANC eager to win Midvaal

While the ANC in Gauteng has been focussing on retaining the hotly contested Tshwane, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni metros in the municipal elections, it says it’s working on winning the Midvaal Local Municipality.
Midvaal, run by the Democratic Alliance (DA), is the top performing municipality in Gauteng.
ANC Deputy Secretary in Gauteng, Gwen Ramokgopa, says a task team has been established to run the party’s election campaign in Midvaal.
“Working together with our shadow council there, to go out and make sure that our manifesto is known by everybody, black and white, rich and poor. And that the track record of ANC in municipalities where we govern is shared with them so that they can be inspired to go and vote. So, we’re confident that our people there will go and vote,” says Ramokgopa.
Tefo Molakeng was announced as the mayoral candidate in Midvaal.
He says that his task is to help unseat the DA and provide better transport infrastructure in the area.
“It’s a mammoth task, but obviously the ANC has deployed me. They’ve got confidence in me. Hopefully after August 3, we’ll deliver Midvaal to ANC. Therefore, our first priority when we deliver Midvaal is to make sure that ANC gives houses to people to their nearest place of work, and make sure that people move from point A to point B without using a lot of money for transport. That’s our main issue now.”
