Tribalism not the root of violence in Tshwane: Motsoaledi
Thu, 23 Jun 2016 18:22:21
African National Congress (ANC) deployee to Tshwane, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, has rejected claims that tribalism is at the root of violent protests against Thoko Didiza being the party’s mayoral candidate for the Tshwane Metro.
Some residents have claimed that a Zulu cannot rule over Pedis and Tsongas.
Motsoaledi says ethnic concerns have never before influenced appointments.
The minister believes that the protests are motivated by what he calls politics of the stomach.
“The real issue I believe is that people believe I have grabbed onto something and it must never go away if somebody new comes in … I am going to lose. When has that ever happened that when a new premier comes in everybody loses their jobs or a new minister or a new mayor?”
