The Security Cluster ministers say they know those who are involved in the violent protests in the Tshwane Metro.
They say more than 20 cases and specific individuals are being investigated after more than 20 buses were torched following disagreements over the African National Congress mayoral candidate in the area.
Shops were also looted and property destroyed in areas around Pretoria, mainly Atteridgeville, Mamelodi and Hammanskraal. The ministers have described the protests as unprecedented, but say they will not deploy the defence force yet.
Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says they will continue to assess the situation before they make a decision.
Meanwhile, State Security Minister David Mahlobo says they are treating the matter with the sensitivity it deserves. “We are not actually going to have our investigation in public.”
