Mayoral candidate confident ANC will the Cape Town

The African National Congress’ mayoral candidate for the City of Cape Town, Xolani Sotashe, says his first task will be to bridge the racial divide in the city.

He is the ANC’s Chairperson of the Dullah Omar Region and the party’s chief in the council. The ANC announced its mayoral candidates for the major metros and strategic towns at the end of its NEC meeting in Pretoria on Saturday night. The City of Cape Town is the only Democratic Alliance run metro in the country. Sotashe says he wants to unite the people of Cape Town.

“The primary objective as ANC is to unite the City of Cape Town; first task is to do away with racial divide where we see segregation of communities that has been our message to people. Obviously it will not be an easy task, it will be difficult, but believe ANC will be able to do it.”

Sotashe also says that despite the challenges the provincial ANC has been grappling with in the last couple of months, he is confident that his party will win the Cape Town metro.

Provincial leader, Marius Fransman, was asked to step down earlier this year pending charges of sexual harassment against him but Sotashe is optimistic that the party will be victorious at the polls.

“Any organisation that is big like ANC will have challenges, it is how we respond to challenges (that matters). I am certain come 3 Aug, ANC will be victorious. I can tell you about lots of discontent in places like Mitchell’s Plein so I will be taking the fight to backyard of the Democratic Alliance.”
