Zille satisfied with DA’s readiness for local govt elections in PE

Western Cape Premier Hellen Zille landed her support to the  Democratic Alliance’s (DA) bid to win the Nelson Mandela metro with a day long campaign in Port Elizabeth townships on Friday.

Zille says she is satisfied that her party has done enough to mobilise support for August 3 municipal elections.

She embarked on a door-to-door campaign in the Chris Hani Informal Settlement and the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth where she interacted with residents.

The municipality is one of the hotly contested in these elections, with the DA and UDM among the contenders while the ANC vigorously fights to retain its control.

Zille engaged residents across various areas of the metro where she heard complaints about living conditions. She urged them to vote for the DA to bring change in the municipality.

“The big issues and problems I have seen here are soluble with good governance. The people have a choice on August 3 to use the power that many struggled for and died for over many years to use their vote to change their government,” says Zille.

Zille was accompanied by Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate Athol Trollip. Later this afternoon the DA leaders will visit KwaZakhele and Northern Areas which is regarded as the party’s stronghold.
