Ramaphosa warns against infighting over candidates’ lists

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged alliance partners to rally behind the list of African National Congress (ANC) councillors in the build up to August 3 municipal elections.
He was delivering a memorial lecture on the first president of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu), Elijah Barayi in Salt River, Cape Town.
Ramaphosa says the process of choosing councillors is closed and there should be no infighting.
“People are still fighting over the list and we have said the list process has been closed. If you have been left out, accept that it is closed leave it to fight another day. Let us move on with the elections with those comrades who have been identified.”
There has beenunhappinessin parts of the Northern Cape, Western Cape and Kwazulu Natal provinces because of the composition of the lists of candidates for the elections.
