Zuma urges KZN ANC members to accept municipal candidates

President Jacob Zuma has again pleaded with African National Congress (ANC) members to accept the outcome of the nomination process of candidate councillors.
Factional battles have led to violent clashes between members squabbling over who should make it to the final list of preferred candidates to contest in the August 3 municipal polls.
Some party members have opted to contest the elections as independents after being left out from the party’s final nomination lists.
KwaZulu-Natal is the ANC’s biggest stronghold but there are concerns that recent political developments in the province might reduce the ruling party’s electoral support.
Addressing a rally to mark the launch of ANC’s KwaZulu-Natal election manifesto in Pietermaritzburg, President Zuma urged party members to rally behind nominated candidates.
“At this critical stage of our campaign, members of the ANC must observe organisational discipline. The ANC process of selecting councillors has been closed. We call on our members to accept the outcome of our democratic processes.”
