EFF calls for IEC to intervene in political violence and intimidation

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to intervene in cases of political violence and intimidation.

The call follows the shooting and wounding of an EFF member in Polokwane.

The party’s spokesperson Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says the IEC should have already appointed election observers.

“One of our female members was canvassing, distributing flyers, shot by an ANC member and we have reported this to the police and this is what is worrying about the IEC – it cannot just sit in these offices and hope elections out there are going to be free and fair. They have to have observers, they have to file cases, they’ve got to go for those violating freedoms of assembly, freedom of expression.”
