Six of the 24 residents arrested in connection with cases of public violence and arson in Vuwani, Limpopo, are due to hear the outcome of their bail application in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Eighteen other residents were denied bail last week.
The standstill in Vuwani has entered into its sixth week.
At least 20 schools, three municipal trucks and private property were torched by residents in Vuwani and surrounding villages during anti-demarcation protests last month.
Some residents do not want to be incorporated into a new municipality in the Vhembe district.
Education has collapsed at more than 100 schools around Vuwani, leaving about 50 000 pupils without education.
Last week, State Security Minister David Mahlobo said the inter-ministerial team on Vuwani has been making significant progress in ensuring that normalcy is slowly restored in the area.
