Western Cape highly contested for elections: IEC

Although the official figures of registered political parties and candidates for the upcoming local government elections have not been released yet, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Western Cape says the province is likely to have the most political parties competing.

IEC provincial head Courtney Sampson says the interest shown by political parties and independent candidates signals that the province will highly contested.

“I think the people that have been coming around, asking questions indicate that (the province has the highest number of registered political parties).”

The official figures of registered political parties will only be released by June 27.
